El día de la ceremonia de los Oscar el 12 de marzo también se celebró la gala de entrega de los premios del cine asiático. Cabe recordar que en la edición de 2016 ganó la película "The assassin".
Este año "Decision to leave" lideró con diez nominaciones mientras que "RRR" sólo obtuvo dos. "Drive" my car" ha logrado tres premios incluyendo mejor largometraje y el film de Park Chan-wook también obtuvo tres premios entre ellos mejor guion aunque el de mejor director fue para Hirokazu Koreeda por "Broker" y no para Ryusuke Hamaguchi o Park Chan-wook.
Sobre los apartados interpretativos, como mejores protagonistas fueron premiados Tony Leung como mejor actor por delante de los de "Drive my car" y "Decision to leave", y Tang Wei merecidamente como mejor actriz. Como mejores secundarios ganaron Hio Miyazawa y So-jin Kim.
En otras categorías importantes, como mejor dirección novel fue reconocida la de "One and four" que también obtuvo el premio a mejor fotografía y como mejor actuación revelación Pui Tung Mak.
Los rubros técnicos se repartieron entre "Drive my car" en meor montaje y música, "Anita" en mejor vestuario y sonido, "Decision to leave" en mejor diseño de producción y "Warriors of future" en mejores efectos especiales.
